‘We were not happy’ – Spurs man wants to send message against Frankfurt

Son Heung-min has admitted that Tottenham Hotspur need to show that they are a strong team against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday after failing to get a win in Germany last week.

Tottenham created plenty of chances in Frankfurt but some lacklustre play in the final third meant the Lilywhites had to settle for a point.

Son put in an under-par display in Germany but the forward did have some promising moments in the clash against Brighton on Saturday, with his cross being turned in by Harry Kane in the first half.

The South Korean stated he enjoyed playing closer to Kane as Conte shifted to a 3-5-2.

He told Football.London about setting up Kane’s match-winner at the Amex Stadium: “The relationship with me and Harry has never changed.

“We’re always talking about how to improve and create many chances for the team. We played a little bit closer today and it was good.

“I think if we weren’t a little bit unlucky we could have scored another goal, me and Harry, but I think we just have to improve ourselves.

“I’m very happy for Harry to score another important goal for the team, I’m ready to help him and I’m sure he’s ready to help the team and me.”

Son admitted that he and his teammates were extremely disappointed at not taking all three points at Deutsche Bank Park last week, given the chances they created.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man remarked that the Lilywhites now need to win their two back-to-back home games to put themselves in a commanding position in Group D.

When asked about the importance of Wednesday’s clash, the 30-year-old said: “Everyone knows how important that game is. To be honest we were not happy with the result at Frankfurt.

“I think it’s a really good point because a point away from home is always difficult in the Champions League and any league game as well. But we had a chance to win the game so we were really frustrated, everybody.

“I think the two home games, because we played two really difficult away games in the Champions League, we should show we’re a really strong team like today. And it’s a massive game.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Both Conte and Kane have specifically called on the Spurs fans to create a raucous atmosphere for Wednesday’s game as they are both aware of how important the match is for Tottenham’s hopes of progressing to the next round. I am sure Spurs fans will respond by serving as the 12th man through the 90 minutes.
