‘We will sit down’ – Club director comments on future of rumoured Spurs target

Stuttgart sporting director Sven Mislintat has insisted the Bundesliga club are not panicking about the prospect of rumoured Tottenham target Sasa Kalajdzic leaving this summer.

Kalajdzic enjoyed a prolific 2020/21 season for Stuttgart, scoring 17 goals and providing six assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

The 24-year-old was subsequently linked with a move to Tottenham last summer (Eurosport) but ended up staying put at the German club.

The Austrian international has endured a difficult season this time out at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, having missed a big chunk of the campaign through injury (Transfermarkt).

German news outlet Kicker reported at the start of March that the centre-forward remains on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window and added that his exit from the Bundesliga club is ‘apparently imminent’ at the end of the season.

While Mislintat acknowledged there is a possibility of Kalajdzic leaving, he insisted that the priority for Stuttgart at the moment is to secure their Bundesliga status.

When asked about the speculation regarding the futures of Kalajdzic and Borna Sosa, the Stuttgart director told Sport Buzzer: “We have always emphasised that we will sit down with the respective player in the case of (transfer) offers in order to find the best solution for VfB and the player.

“It can be a transfer but, of course, it can also mean staying at VfB. Borna, Sasa and Orel (Mangala) have contracts with us beyond the summer. So there is no reason to get nervous.

“At the moment, this topic is very far away anyway. Our entire concentration is on the current season and our goal, to stay in the Bundesliga. Everything else is not important now.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The big question for the Spurs board this summer would be if they want to bring in a big-money player who can start alongside Kane and Son like Lautaro Martinez, or if they want to bring in a cheaper option as a backup to Kane, and spend the money to strengthen other areas of the pitch. If it is the latter, Kalajdzic would be a decent option.
