‘We won’ – Some fans are delighted to player avoid international call-up

Some Tottenham fans on social media have expressed their relief at the fact that Sergio Reguilon has not been included in Spain’s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding players’ availability for the upcoming international break from 22 March to 1 April.

Travel restrictions imposed by the UK government on those returning from ‘red list’ countries raises the possibility of players having to self-isolate for a set period on their return.

A number of Premier League managers including Jose Mourinho have already hinted that they would not allow players to leave should they require to self-isolate on their return to the UK.

Tottenham’s South American stars will be remaining London after the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) decided to postpone their World Cup qualifiers.

It has now been confirmed that Spurs also would not have to worry about losing Reguilon, with Vicente del Bosque picking Valencia’s Jose Gaya and Barcelona’s Jordi Alba in the squad ahead of the Tottenham defender.

Some Tottenham fans are delighted that they would not have to sweat about Reguilon’s fitness during the international break particularly given his importance to the side.

It is clear that Gaya is Del Bosque’s first-choice at left-back and one can understand why the Spanish boss picked Alba in this squad in light of the Barca’s star’s recent upturn in form. However, it would be a major mistake if Del Bosque does not pick Reguilon for the Euros as the Tottenham man has arguably been the best out of those three this season.
