“We’ll discuss” – PSG director issues update on Mauricio Pochettino’s future

Amid reports linking Mauricio Pochettino with a return to Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has admitted that the club will hold discussions with the Argentine at the end of the season.

Antonio Conte’s future at Tottenham remains in doubt, with reports from France claiming over the past few days that the Italian is keen on taking over at PSG, who are expected to part ways with Pochettino at the end of the season (Le Parisian).

Football Insider reported last month that the PSG boss would ‘love’ to make a romantic return to Spurs, almost three years after being sacked by Daniel Levy.

The report added that the 50-year-old remains in regular contact with the Spurs chairman despite the nature of his dismissal in 2019.

Leonardo has now refused to confirm that Pochettino will be in charge of PSG next season, admitting that discussions will be held over the former Spurs boss’ future once the campaign comes to a close.

The PSG director told Sky Sport Italia (via Fabrizio Romano): “Mauricio has one year left on his contract.

“It’s normal to discuss at the end of the season, what are plans on both sides and more. It’s been a difficult season but we’re champions now. We’ll discuss and then we see”.

Conte will be backed in this summer’s transfer window and I expect the Italian to still be in charge next season. However, should Conte decide to walk away, Pochettino would be the best candidate to take over.

The only issue I see is that the Argentine was the manager rather than just a head coach when he was last at Spurs and it remains to be seen if he will be open to working with a sporting director.

Based on the kind of managers Paratici went for last summer, it is also evident that the Spurs managing director’s philosophy is quite different to that of Pochettino’s. So, if Levy wants to bring the 50-year-old back to North London, he will have to press the reset button yet again and potentially get rid of Paratici.
