‘We’ll do everything’ – Spurs star claims club are favourites to win Conference League

UEFA Europa Conference League

Steven Bergwijn has claimed that Tottenham are currently the favourites to win the Europa Conference League and says the side will do everything they can to secure the title.

Tottenham currently sit at the top of Group G on goal difference and are preparing for a trip to Dutch outfit Vitesse Arnhem this evening.

It was an unconvincing start in the competition for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, who scraped a 2-2 draw with Rennes in the group opener, before thrashing Slovenian minnows NS Mura 5-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs will be hoping to mirror their last fixture for the encounter in the Netherlands, to put them in a strong position for qualification into the knockout rounds.

The competition will likely be held in higher regard than some may think for Spurs, as the club is looking to put an end to a silverware drought lasting more than 13 years.

Bergwijn, 24, believes it is a good opportunity for the club to achieve that and claims his side are the favourites to be named the first-ever winners of the inaugural European competition.

He said (via football.london): “I think very important [on winning silverware]. We are playing in the Conference League and I think we’re the favourite now. We’ll do everything to win it.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Although Spurs aren’t exactly where they want to be in terms of European football, the Europa Conference League is a very good opportunity to win some silverware, so the club will have to embrace being involved in it. Spurs have to negotiate what is a tricky fixture in the Netherlands to keep the ball rolling in the group stage.
