Tottenham Hotspur are now set to play Fulham on Wednesday night rather than the original match against Aston Villa, the North London club have revealed.
The match against Villa had been thrown into doubt when the club released a statement last week, claiming that an outbreak of positive COVID-19 test cases had forced them to shut down their training ground.
Aston Villa were then knocked out of the FA Cup by Liverpool after they chose to field a team of academy youngsters rather than forfeit the tie.
Spurs were set to take on Villa on Wednesday January 13, but the fixture has now been called off. However, the Premier League have rescheduled Tottenham’s game against Fulham to take place on the same night at 20:15 on Amazon Prime Video.
This comes after the original fixture on December 30 was called off due to a number of COVID-19 positive test cases in the Fulham camp.
Some Spurs fans took to Twitter to react to the fixture swap:
they should either field a youth team for forfeit ffs

If you can’t field a team you should have to forfeit

Thank God we’re at least playing

As predicted, Villa game postponed. So why were they made to play Liverpool? Completely devalued the FA cup. @AVFCOfficial @EmiratesFACup

So they can make a team vs Liverpool but not against us. Makes complete sense.
