‘We’ll speak’ – Conte answers question on his contract situation at Spurs

Antonio Conte has confirmed that he will talk with the Tottenham hierarchy about his contract situation and find the best solution for all involved.

However, the Italian was also keen to tell the press that his contract is not important at the moment, with Spurs in the midst of an important run of fixtures in the Premier League and Champions League.

Football Insider reported this month that Tottenham are expected to offer Conte a new contract worth more than £20million-a-year, making him the highest-paid in the league ahead of both Klopp and Guardiola.

The Telegraph also reported that Tottenham are planning on opening talks with Conte over extending his stay next month, likely while the majority of the squad are away on World Cup duty.

Conte’s current contract runs until the summer of 2023, but also includes the option of an extension (Spurs Official).

Asked about his contract situation today, Conte said (Football London): “My contract in this moment is not important. The most important thing is to prepare for the game and this period of games. Right now we need to be focused for these three big games ahead.

“I have to speak to the club and we’ll speak about this situation and find the best solution for everybody.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I would imagine that Tottenham’s ideal scenario would be to talk to Conte while the World Cup is on and agree a two-year extension to his deal. Then that should help them in talks with Harry Kane over an extension in January.
