‘We’re not even in the race’ – Mourinho claims Spurs are not in Premier League hunt

Tottenham Hotspur head coach, Jose Mourinho has now claimed that his club are not in the Premier League title race, despite currently being top of the table.

Spurs regained their status at the summit of the league can earning a point away to Chelsea this weekend, a day after Liverpool dropped points against Brighton.

However, Tottenham are only above last year’s champions on goal difference and Mourinho implied in his post-match press conference that Spurs do not have the resources of some of their rivals.

Mourinho used Thiago Silva and Joe Rodon as examples, claiming that one is amongst the best defenders in the world, while the other was in the Championship last season.

In the context of a horse race for the Premier League title, Mourinho claimed that Spurs were merely a pony.

Tottenham now look ahead to a tough North London Derby against Arsenal next time out in the Premier League, as well as an upcoming December fixture against Liverpool.

Mourinho said (Charlie Eccleshare): “We are not even in the race, so we are not a horse. We are just a pony. You see the difference – Joe Rodon was playing for Swansea; Thiago Silva has been and still is one of the best centre-backs.”
