‘We’re used to losing’ – Man City star makes admission about playing Spurs

Ilkay Gundogan has admitted that the Manchester City players have now got used to losing when they travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In many respects, Spurs have emerged as City’s bogey team since Pep Guardiola arrived at the club back in 2016, with the Spaniard having a particularly poor record when travelling to North London.

In fact, City have not scored a single goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since its opening in 2019 and lost every single one of the five matches they have played at the venue across all competitions.

It seems like no matter how well the reigning Premier League Champions are playing and how bad a run of form Spurs are in, the Lilywhites simply have City’s number at their home ground, which has led to some City fans even suggesting that they are cursed at the venue (Daily Star).

Gundogan has now spoken about how the City players view travelling away to Spurs every season. The midfielder simply remarked (via FootballJOE): “At this point, we’re used to losing at the Tottenham Stadium.”

I think City’s poor record at Spurs is more than just a coincidence.

We have had three counter-attacking managers in Mourinho, Nuno and Conte over recent years and Guardiola’s men simply struggle against counter-attacking teams who have quality forwards, due to the spaces they leave at the back.
