West Ham have a ‘good chance’ of beating Tottenham to PL star – Journalist

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has now suggested that there is a ‘good chance’ that West Ham United would win the race for Tottenham target Ivan Toney this summer.

While it appears to be an open secret that Toney will be leaving Brentford this summer, with the striker set to enter the final year of his contract in June, it is anyone’s guess at the moment where the centre-forward would end up.

It has been widely reported over the last few months that Spurs are prepared to go toe-to-toe with the biggest clubs in the Premier League in the race for the 27-year-old, who is allegedly expected to cost around £50m to £60m (HITC).

A couple of weeks ago, The Sun handed Tottenham a boost by suggesting that Arsenal had cooled their interest in Toney. The publication asserted that the race for the England international now appears to be a three-way contest between Spurs, Chelsea and West Ham.

West Ham are major contenders for Ivan Toney

O’Rourke has now also suggested that Arsenal are no longer particularly keen on Toney, with the Gunners now said to be prioritising other number nines.

However, the journalist asserted that there is a ‘good chance’ that the Brentford star will end up at the London Stadium this summer.

O’Rourke told Football Insider: “There’s now a good chance that Ivan Toney could end up at West Ham. It would be a statement signing. We know they have been lacking a number nine for a couple of seasons now.

“There’s a lot of talk about Arsenal being interested in Toney but my understanding is that that their interest has cooled and they’re looking at other targets.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Tottenham would be a more attractive destination for Toney than either West Ham or Chelsea, particularly if we manage to get back into the Champions League. However, I am not sure if the Lilywhites will spend £60m on a centre-forward unless they decide to cash in on Richarlison.
