West Ham legend claims Mourinho has made Tottenham ‘Spursy’ again

Former West Ham United midfielder Paolo Di Canio has claimed that Jose Mourinho has made Tottenham ‘Spursy’ again.

The Italian made the claim ahead of Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against Everton which have all but ended the club’s hopes of finishing in the top four of the Premier League this season.

The ‘Spursy’ tag was born from the club’s capacity to fail spectacularly in recent history having not won a piece of competitive silverware in thirteen years.

Tottenham came close to ending their barren spell under former boss Mauricio Pochettino who came up short in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

Di Canio claimed that prior to the fixture at Goodison Park it was a case of two clubs going in opposite directions, with Everton on the up.

The North Londoners will have the chance to taste success again when they face Premier League leaders Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

He told Il Mattino: “Everton have lost physical vigour in recent times, but Carlo has made Everton dream. He recovered their enthusiasm. During long spells, he was very close to the Champions League.

“Mourinho, on the other hand, has been disappointing. He made the ‘Spursy’ re-emerge or has betrayed Tottenham’s ambitions just when they seemed achievable.”
