West Ham star Zouma opens up on defending against ‘dangerous’ Harry Kane

Kurt Zouma has labelled Harry Kane as one of the most dangerous strikers in the Premier League and says he needs to be very focused when defending against him ahead of West Ham’s clash with Tottenham.

Both sides are gearing up for a clash at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon after they were each involved in European action on Thursday.

The Hammers extended their perfect start to their Europa League campaign with a 2-0 win against Genk to make it three wins from three, while a heavily rotated Tottenham side stumbled to a 1-0 defeat to Vitesse Arnhem in the Europa Conference League.

Zouma, who joined West Ham from Chelsea in the summer, has enjoyed a positive start to life in East London and is preparing for an afternoon marking Spurs talisman man Kane.

The England captain opened his Premier League account last weekend against Newcastle but has endured a relatively underwhelming campaign so far.

Ahead of Sunday’s matchup, Zouma warned that he is not taking Kane’s form for granted and admits that he needs to be on his toes when coming up against a striker of his calibre.

He told the Evening Standard: “He is a very dangerous player. He can score from every position. If you leave him room he can shoot from everywhere and score.

“He is accurate, very dangerous, one of the best strikers in the Premier League. He’s scored a lot of goals.

“You never know what can happen with him. You always have to be focused and concentrated and tight on him.

“But a game is not about one player, it is about the team, the way they play, the shape. You have to be even more focused on them, but you cannot change your style, the way you prepare for the games.

“I always keep the same and I know that the player is great, but also the team around him.”

Kane’s form has been below par, but defenders are still wary of the threat he poses to them in spite of that. Zouma is a good defender and Kane has a good record against West Ham, so hopefully, he will be able to build on his goal last weekend to push Spurs to another league win.
