Report: West Ham submit £12m bid for reported Tottenham transfer target

West Ham United have submitted a bid of £11.9m for Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car, according to L’Equipe.

The East London side are said to be long-term admirers of the 24-year-old. The Sun reported in October 2020 that West Ham were making a £25m bid for the defender, with David Moyes’ side prepared to pay the Croatia international £150,000 a week.

However, Caleta-Car rejected the offer and confirmed when speaking to Le10 Sport that Champions League football with Marseille was the reason he turned down the Premier League side.

However, despite the Hammers pushing for his signature this transfer window, there have been some whispers about the defender instead joining Tottenham Hotspur to play under new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

Croatian news outlet Sportklub claimed the centre-back could potentially be on his way to Spurs this summer.

The 24-year-old has played 91 games in all competitions for the French side after signing from Red Bull Salzburg in 2018.

It is clear that Spurs want one more centre-back this summer to partner Romero. Caleta-Car is clearly a good option and has turned out consistent seasons for a Champions League side. For a fairly low fee reported, it could be worth trying to sneak the deal behind West Ham’s back.
