West Ham youngster and Tottenham target compliments Spurs captain

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked to young Declan Rice for a number of months now.

The Sun reported last month that contract talks between the young midfielder and West Ham had ground to a halt.

Spurs were made bookies favourite to sign the player by Ladbrokes.

The former Chelsea youth player has two years left on his current deal.

He is said to be paid around £3,000 a week, a figure that could be multiplied by five or ten at Tottenham.

Rice featured in the Hammers team that lost to Spurs 1-0 at the weekend.

The match was extremely tight, and the midfield man was very impressive in a claret and blue shirt.

He broke into the West Ham first team last season and has impressed at both centre-back and midfield since.

His versatility could be compared to that of Eric Dier.

After the match, Rice was full of praise for Tottenham keeper and man of the match, Hugo Lloris.

Football London report he said: “I thought it was a very, very tight game.

“We conceded a very sloppy goal from a cross again, but we had so many chances where we could have scored and we were unlucky not to pick up the three points.

“Hugo Lloris made some fantastic saves. Arnie kept trying and trying and that one in the 90th minute Hugo came out – he’s a top keeper.”
