Tottenham Hotspur put in yet another extremely poor performance against Southampton this afternoon and were overcome 1-0 by the hosts.
Jose Mourinho started with Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele as the midfield pivots and Ryan Sessegnon at left-back in a back four.
Spurs suffered an early injury blow as Ndombele was withdrawn with a problem in the early moments of the first half. Southampton took the lead in the 17th minute through Danny Ings and Tottenham hardly threatened an equaliser before the interval.
Even in the second half, the Lillywhites struggled to create clear cut chances despite a lot of huffing and puffing. To make matters worse, Harry Kane also went off late in the game holding his hamstring.
Some Spurs fans were absolutely fuming at the result with many opining that the squad was in desperate need of new additions in the January transfer window.
Here’s how some fans reacted to the performance and result:
Absolutely embarrassing display, eleven players with no team identity at all whatsoever and a lack of a cohesive plan or structure to play against an opponent.

All Saints have done is the basics, they’ve been awful too. Yet they deserve the win for doing the basics.

No words really. We have lost all of our identify, I don’t even know what we are trying to be under Mourinho. It’s all very depressing.

Go get Bale or someone of that stature to give everyone a lift. With Kane out for a while we need a big player to lift this bunch. A new RB and CDM. This is such a pathetic team now. Sad to see how weak it really is. Folded like a pack of cards.

That literally couldn’t have gone much worse.
Only positive about the game is that it’s fucking over.

What we’re seeing now is the result of two years (or more) of poor squad building and it’s going to take more than one transfer window to fix it. Lots of players to move on and lots of new players needed. We need to hope our elite ones don’t get bored waiting.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see us finish 8th or lower at this rate. We’re worse than I thought.

No control in midfield.
Central pairing awful.
Dele Moura & Kane – non existent.
New signings useless.
Bench made zero impact.
Couldn’t string 2 passes together anywhere

Spurs Web Opinion
The performances against Chelsea, Brighton, Norwich and now Southampton have all been poor. In all four of the games, the team has shown a lack of intensity and have struggled to create chances going forward. We have also made quite a lot of defensive mistakes. Jose Mourinho will now be under no illusions about the enormity of the job on his hands.
