Some Spurs fans are livid with FA’s announcement that has seen Eric Dier handed a four-match ban and £40,000 fine for his involvement in a confrontation with a spectator back in March.
After Tottenham were beaten on penalties by Norwich in an FA Cup tie back in March, the 26-year-old climbed into the west stand to confront a fan who was allegedly threatening his brother.
Stewards had to intervene to stop the confrontation, which unsurprisingly made the headlines.
Jose Mourinho defended Dier after the incident and insisted that anyone would have done the same had they been in the England international’s shoes.
However, 127 days on from the incident, the versatile defender has now been hit with a four match ban, which he has the option to appeal.
Some Tottenham fans on social media could not believe the FA’s double-standards given that they had turned the blind eye towards more egregious behaviour recently.
They also questioned the timing of the ban given that it had come four days before the North London derby against Arsenal.
Four games for Dier and nothing for Guendouzi. Pathetic

🏴 Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier enters the crowd to stop abuse and is given a four-match ban and fine.
🇫🇷 Arsenal midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi grabs an opposition player’s throat with intent and received absolutely nothing.

What a joke that punishment is for Eric Dier. They’ve actually waited four days before the north London derby to suspend him. Let me not even begin on others who have done worse in the last few weeks and got away with it.

Let me break down the FA statement for you:
We failed to make a decision for over 4 months on Eric Dier, but when it looked like he might be playing a little too well and Tottenham had important games coming up – we had to take action.
Please stop talking about Guendouzi. #FA

Eric Dier banned for 4 games. Climbing into the stand and shouting at someone gets a more severe punishment than being racist or throttling someone these days. THE FA HAS STRUCK AGAIN 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 #dier #thefa

Absolute disgrace. Dier didn't even physically assault the "victim" yet the @FA allows someone to grab a fellow professional by the throat, with clear intent to harm, and they turn a blind eye.

Both Eric Dier and the spectator say that Dier was NOT acting in a threatening way… FA rule that he was.
Dier says he was solely protecting his brother… FA rule that he wasn’t.

4 game ban for Dier is a joke! There was no violence and the guy ran off showing what happens when you confront bullies. FA showing punishing confronting bullies is more important than sticking to lockdown by giving Walker/Grealish nothing

Spurs Web Opinion
The one good thing about the verdict is that Dier will have the option to appeal it, which I expect him to. The timing of the ban deserves to be scrutinised and I expect Jose Mourinho to point out the FA’s hypocrisy in his press conference later this afternoon.
