‘What a joke’ – Some Spurs fans are furious after FA announcement

Some Spurs fans are livid with FA’s announcement that has seen Eric Dier handed a four-match ban and £40,000 fine for his involvement in a confrontation with a spectator back in March.

After Tottenham were beaten on penalties by Norwich in an FA Cup tie back in March, the 26-year-old climbed into the west stand to confront a fan who was allegedly threatening his brother.

Stewards had to intervene to stop the confrontation, which unsurprisingly made the headlines.

Jose Mourinho defended Dier after the incident and insisted that anyone would have done the same had they been in the England international’s shoes.

However, 127 days on from the incident, the versatile defender has now been hit with a four match ban, which he has the option to appeal.

Some Tottenham fans on social media could not believe the FA’s double-standards given that they had turned the blind eye towards more egregious behaviour recently.

They also questioned the timing of the ban given that it had come four days before the North London derby against Arsenal.

The one good thing about the verdict is that Dier will have the option to appeal it, which I expect him to. The timing of the ban deserves to be scrutinised and I expect Jose Mourinho to point out the FA’s hypocrisy in his press conference later this afternoon.
