Tributes from Tottenham fans on social media have been pouring in as Jan Vertonghen confirmed the news that he is set to leave Spurs after eight years at the club.
It is fair to say that Vertonghen’s revelation did not come as much of a surprise to fans as multiple reports have already revealed that the central defender was on his way out of North London.
The likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Paulo Gazzaniga took to social media after the draw against Crystal Palace on Sunday to say their goodbyes to Vertonghen, as well as Michel Vorm, and wish them luck for the future.
After the inevitable confirmation came from the long-serving defender, some Spurs fans paid their tributes to the Belgian international for his brilliant career with the club.
Some were saddened by the fact that the former Ajax man could not get the send-off he deserved from the fans after eight years of amazing service.
Going to miss you so much, Jan. Honestly. Thank you for all your efforts at the club. I’ll never forget *that* performance against Dortmund in the Champions League. You’re a legend. Best wishes for whatever you choose to do next. Visit us again when the circumstances allow. ?

#thfc From day one, Vertonghen always felt like a great fit for Tottenham. On the pitch, he was consistently one of the better defenders in the Premier League & a proper footballers to boot. Off it, he was polite, intelligent, thoughtful. He'll be a big miss.

Sad to see Super Jan leave Spurs. Interviewed him on his first day at the club, and he always spoke with honesty and good humour in the mixed zone, win or lose. A rock at the heart of Tottenham’s best defence in modern times, and an all round good guy. He’ll be missed. https://t.co/tPeTdrSst1

Thank you for absolutely everything Jan, this man served us for 8 years and always put in 110% every game, arguably our best defender since Ledley and he deserved a trophy so much,I don’t care what anyone says he is a Spurs legend.

Spurs Web Opinion
Vertonghen has been a loyal servant to the club as he could have gone to any team in the world in his prime. He specifically pushed for a move to Tottenham when he left Ajax in 2012 and has been extremely loyal to us, even when we were going through dark times, like towards the end under AVB and during Tim Sherwood’s reign. Despite our failure to win silverware during his time at the club, the Belgian deserves to be remembered as one of our greatest modern-day defenders.
