‘What a nice guy’ – Matt Doherty praises one ‘phenomenal’ Spurs teammate

Tottenham Hotspur’s Matt Doherty has praised his teammate Richarlison in a recent interview with the club’s official website, and even claimed the striker can help Brazil win the World cup.

Richarlison signed for Spurs in the summer in a deal worth up to £60 million (Sky Sports). The former Everton man was brought in to bolster the Tottenham attack and provide cover and competition for the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

The 25-year-old has scored two goals and provided three assists for Spurs in 15 games across all competitions (Transfermarkt) and has instantly endeared himself to those around the club.

His international form has caught the eye this year, too. Richarlison now has 19 goals in 39 appearances for the Brazilian national team (Transfermarkt) and is leading the line for his country at the World Cup in Qatar.

After Richarlison’s stunning double against Serbia in Brazil’s opening World Cup game, Doherty was full of praise for his teammate and revealed he is backing Richarlison to lead his country to glory.

He said: “Richarlison! Brazil were very impressive in the second half against Serbia, and our boy Richy with the goal of the tournament so far!”

Doherty touched on Richarlison’s goalscoring form for his country and tipped his work ethic to be a key factor in his success moving forward.

He said: “His record with Brazil is phenomenal (that’s nine goals in six caps in 2022) and he could bring them the World Cup. He works his socks off and what a nice guy, he deserves everything positive that comes his way.”
