‘What a waste of talent’ – Stan Collymore on Harry Kane’s Spurs situation

Former Liverpool forward Stan Collymore has insisted Harry Kane should be playing among the best in the world in the Champions League next season.

Tottenham will not compete in European football’s most prestigious club competition during the 2020/21 campaign for the first time in five seasons after failing to finish in the top four.

Collymore claims that it is a shame that a player of Kane’s quality should not be playing in a lesser competition such as the Europa League.

“Harry Kane has to be playing for a Champions League club next season. What a waste of talent if he plays Europa League or no Euro football at all,” Collymore told the Daily Mirror.

“He passed 20 goals for Spurs again last week – for the sixth consecutive season. And he roared past 200 club goals, all but a handful for Spurs.

“It would be a wrench for him to leave after so many years of service and the chance to smash even more club records at White Hart Lane.

“At just 26, he reckons another 200 club goals are possible. But will they be for the North London club?.”

Tottenham have not qualified for next season’s after their poor start to the season has cost them despite a recent upturn in results since the restart of the Premier League after the COVID-19 pandemic (PL).

Spurs currently have their eyes on a Europa League finish and occupy seventh spot with the potential to finish as high as sixth place.

He is right, it is a crime that a player of Kane’s ability will not be playing in next season’s Champions League. However, this is the situation we are in now. If Kane is willing to stay for next season then we will just have to embrace the situation we are in and if we do qualify for the Europa League we have to go all out to win it.
