Tottenham Hotspur have announced that once-promising youngster, Marcus Edwards, has now left the club on the European transfer deadline day.
Edwards will now join up with the Portuguese Primeira Liga side, Vitoria SC, as he looks to salvage his career.
The tricky winger was once regarded by many as Tottenham’s brightest academy prospect, but Edwards was never really able to live up to the hype.
After making one appearance under Pochettino in the League Cup, Edwards was given the chance to prove himself property when loaned out to Norwich City (Wikipedia).
However, the move went woefully for the forward and he was sent back to Spurs early. He then enjoyed a somewhat successful spell in the Netherlands at Excelsior, but he was still unable to catch Pochettino’s eye.
He will now be playing against Arsenal in the Europa League group stages, so perhaps there is hope to repay Tottenham fans’ faith in him yet.
Some fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news:

Lamela been our best player so far, directly involved in 4 goals. Edwards is a poor mans Ravel Morrison.

Seemed to be turning it around when he went on loan

Hopefully there is a buy back clause or at least a high sell on clause. Good Luck Marcus ?

What a waste of talent. Wish he could’ve got his head down and stayed more focused.

One who I think has a bit of an attitude problem and can’t seem to knuckle down. Shame he hasn’t realised his potential but I think he’s a bit of a bad egg.

We don’t wish him the best he’s arrogant and only thinks about himself
