What Conte and Tuchel said about their red cards after Chelsea 2-2 Spurs

Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte were both asked about the incidents leading to their red cards in the post-match press conferences today as Chelsea and Spurs fought out a feisty 2-2 draw.

Chelsea took the lead in the first half after new signing Koulibaly hammered home a volley at the back post from a corner, with the Blues outplaying the Lilywhites for the entire first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Spurs put up more of a fight and enjoyed some time in the ascendancy after switching to a 4-4-2 formation and bringing on Richarlison.

Kane missed a golden chance to make it 1-1 before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg proved an unlikely source of the equaliser, although Chelsea were unhappy about a potential foul in the build-up.

This led to a confrontation between the two managers, with each getting booked after going head to head. They were then shown straight reds following the full-time whistle once another two goals had been scored.

Tuchel refused to let Conte’s hand go during their shake because the Spurs boss was not looking him in the eye, leading to a mass scuffle. Here’s what the two had to say on the matter to Sky Sports and in their press conferences…

Tuchel:

“I don’t have bad feeling and I’m sure he won’t. It was so close and such an intense match and both dugouts were very close. I enjoyed it and I think he did too. Nothing bad (Football London).”

Conte (Football London):

“It’s not so important. The most important thing is football and to speak about football. It was an intensive game.”

“Honestly the referee showed me a red card but he didn’t understand the dynamic of what happened, but ok I have to accept but I repeat it’s not a big problem. The problem is between me and the other coach, not with the referee.”

“I think the celebration from both sides was really good (laughs). The run and then the jump. You can understand the situation. I think this game is an important game for both clubs.”

“You have to show passion every time because the result can be positive or negative but you have to love your job and your work and show your passion. If the fans see this, it’s good. You can take big achievements if you have a big passion in your job.”
