‘What he needs’ – Alasdair Gold reveals Spurs starlet has ‘definitely bulked up’

Alasdair Gold has noticed that Dane Scarlett has bulked up a lot and is now far stronger than he was previously.

Scarlett signed his first professional contract with Spurs in March of last year and the striker has progressed impressively since then.

The 18-year-old has made ten senior appearances for the Lilywhites (Transfermakrt) and has been included in Tottenham’s matchday squads regularly over recent months.

Antonio Conte praised the teenager last month, labelling him ‘a really important prospect’ for the club (Football.London).

According to reports, Spurs are keen to tie down Scarlett’s future and have opened talks with the academy graduate over a new contract, with a striker allegedly set for a substantial pay rise (Football Insider).

Gold revealed after watching Scarlett complete 90 minutes in Tottenham Under-23’s 0-0 draw against Brighton on Monday that the youngster’s physique has developed considerably over the last 12 months.

The journalist also said that he expects Spurs to loan the striker out to an EFL club next season.

Gold said on his YouTube channel: “On Monday, I went to the Under-23s match at the stadium, was a good turnout there as well.

“Wasn’t the greatest game in the world, 0-0 against Brighton, but a couple of interesting points. Dane Scarlett was starting upfront. He had a tough day, bit of a frustrating day.

“A couple of nice runs, a couple of nice attempts to try and get shots on goal, but he was quite frustrated. A bit like those early Europa Conference League qualifying games where he started for Nuno upfront, just feeding off scraps.

“But he’s definitely bulked up, you can see being with the first team all season, he’s strengthened. He looks like a first-team player that had come to play with the Under-23s, and bear in mind he’s only 18, it shows his physical development.

“He looks a world away from that player (who debuted under Jose Mourinho). From what I understand, unless Conte decides otherwise over the summer, the club will look to give Dane a loan next season. Which is what he needs.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Scarlett has developed considerably over the last couple of years but the club and Tottenham fans should be wary of putting major expectations on the youngster’s shoulders.

We saw with Troy Parrott that the pressure to be the next best thing crippled him and slowed down his progress before he got his career back on track this season.
