‘What I have been told’ – Pundit explains why Man Utd may miss out on Harry Kane

Don Hutchison has revealed that Manchester United will only have a modest transfer budget this summer and thus may not be able to afford the kind of fee that Tottenham are likely to demand for Harry Kane.

The Kane to Man Utd saga looks set to dominate the back pages over the next few months, particularly since the striker does not look close to signing a new contract at the moment.

Football Insider reported last week that even though the Red Devils hierarchy know that a deal for the Tottenham man will be difficult, the 29-year-old remains at the top of their wishlist.

This is because United allegedly see Kane as a transformative signing, who can catapult them into a title challenge next season.

However, The Telegraph suggested recently that Daniel Levy is expected to demand £100m for his talisman despite his contract situation and that Erik Ten Hag’s men have no intention of getting into protracted negotiations with the Spurs chairman that could last many months.

Hutchison has now suggested that United’s entire summer budget is only expected to be around £100m, which is why Kane might be out of their reach.

The pundit told ESPN FC: “Man United, from what I have been told, they haven’t got bundles of money.

“I think their transfer budget is around £100 million, so they need two or three players.

“They obviously need a number nine, so you would buy Harry Kane because he guarantees you 30 goals a season.

“But, can they afford him and will Daniel Levy sell to Man United?

“He must be so devastated that he can’t win a trophy with Spurs. He has given so many loyal years that he might be thinking ‘you know what I will give them one more try’.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Convincing Kane to sign a new contract seems like it would be an uphill task for Spurs.

I would not be surprised if the striker’s entourage insisted on a £60m-£80m release clause in the contract, which would become active next summer in case Tottenham finished outside the top four again next season.
