‘What is it now?’ – Carragher argues people still don’t give Harry Kane enough credit

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane still does not receive the credit he deserves from people in England.

Kane has enjoyed yet another meteoric rise over the past few years, which has seen him develop his overall game to another level.

Complementing his skill sets between a playmaker and a clinical finisher, he has become a more well-rounded attacker under the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Despite suffering from a disappointing first half of the season, the Englishman still racked up a tally of 27 goals and ten assists from 50 matches across all competitions in the 2021-22 campaign (Transfermarkt).

Even with that, he is often overlooked when it comes to discussions involving the best attackers in world football.

The 29-year-old won the Premier League Golden Boot and Playmaker Award in a single season (Premier League official) but was still beaten to the Player of the Year award by Kevin De Bruyne.

Carragher feels that Kane is often underrated despite all the personal glory he has achieved in his career. The former defender expressed how Kane just continues to keep his head down and improve himself despite all the stick he receives from others.

Speaking on Monday Night Football (via Football Daily), Carragher said: “The mentality of Harry Kane is top. That’s what makes him where he is.

“There’s something about Harry Kane that a lot of people in this country still don’t give him enough credit – whether it’s because he went on loan (or) he wasn’t that good, is it? What is it now?

“He’s been the top goalscorer in a World Cup. He’s going to be the top goalscorer for England, he’s going to be the top goalscorer ever for Tottenham and he’s probably going to be the Premier League’s (top scorer of all time).

“I think he gets a lot thrown at him considering what he’s done in his career and he just never gets involved, never bites back, does his job. His mentality is absolutely fantastic.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

It almost feels like people are so much lost in their ways that they cannot applaud or recognise genuine quality without looking at silverware. That seems to have played a part in this case, as Kane may often be overlooked because he hasn’t won a trophy at Spurs.

However, Kane now has a chance to make a significant change with Antonio Conte’s help. Not to mention, the board also appear to have finally put in considerable effort in the market to raise the squad’s quality, which, in turn, could boost the England captain’s chances of finally winning some titles.
