Some Tottenham fans on social media have admitted that they cannot wait to put this season behind them after the North Londoners fell to a 3-1 defeat against Leeds this afternoon.
The game was a must-win for Spurs if they harboured any hopes of finishing in the top four and Ryan Mason decided to stick with the same eleven that thrashed Sheffield United 4-0 last week.
However, Mason’s men struggled to cope with the home side’s press in the first half and were lucky to be going into the interval just 2-1 down, partly owing to the heroics of Hugo Lloris in goal.
Tottenham gave a much better account of themselves in the second period as they controlled possession and created plenty of opportunities.
However, Leeds continued to pose a threat on the counter-attack as Spurs committed bodies forward and Marcelo Bielsa’s men eventually finished the game off through an 84th-minute goal by substitute Rodrigo.
The defeat came on the two year anniversary of the miracle in Amsterdam and some Spurs fans could not believe how far the club had fallen since then.
Here’s how they reacted to the 3-1 loss which practically ended the club’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League:
Shambles
Sort a new manager out now so they go time to decide who they want and don’t want
Shift out the absolute shambles players
Around 15 of these need to leave— Alex (@alexcoys2020) May 8, 2021
As if Spurs were going to do anything other than this.
End the season. Let's regroup, swing the axe and start again.

What was it Mason said?
“We have 4 cup finals left”.
Well no wonder we lost.

2 years ago to the day we were beating Ajax to reach a UCL final with top 4 already in the bag.
Today we’ve taken a football lesson from a newly promoted team to put a dent in our hopes of finishing 7th & qualifying for Europe’s 3rd ranked competition.

"So what now? The unlikely gate-crashing of the Champions League is dead. Europa is a migraine of mediocrity and I still have no idea what the Conference is. I want this season done and dusted and for another new chapter to start. One preferably not scribbled with broken crayons"

Watching all the Ajax reruns it’s criminal that we have gone so backwards in just 2 years.
