What Kieran Trippier needs at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur’s incredible season is starting to fall apart after two exits from cup competitions in a matter of four days.

First losing the semi final of the League Cup to Chelsea, then getting knocked out of the FA Cup by Crystal Palace.

One man who seems to be on the wrong end of abuse from fans of late is English right-back Kieran Trippier.

Supporters have many jobs at a football club, including getting behind the team, funding the club, providing atmosphere, and also holding players and staff to account.

If a player is not performing, or a manager/chairman is making questionable decisions, the supporters are well within their rights to voice their opinions.

However, I feel like it has gone a step too far with Trippier. Every week I see messages on Twitter asking for him to be dropped completely, or sold even.

This is a player who last season was outstanding for Spurs, and ever since the unfortunate sale of Kyle Walker, has picked up the right back mantle with aplomb.

He played his way into the England team and also gave us one of the country’s best footballing experiences in donkeys years, even topping it off with a freekick in the semi final.

However, despite all these highs and class performances, and goals and assists, now that Trippier is experiencing one of his first slumps in his Spurs career, many fans are ready to give up on him.

A good player doesn’t become a bad player overnight for no reason. Trippier has played a lot of games over the past year, and carried some nasty injuries, and surely just needs time and rest to get back to his best, but mostly importantly, support too!

We should be getting behind our player to improve his performances on the pitch, not giving up on him and condemning him to a Tottenham exit at the first sign of poor performances.

If Kane had a bad season in which he only scored five or ten goals, would people be asking for him to be sold too?

Get behind Trippier. Support him. Hopefully he can get back to the levels he showed over the past two or three years. There is still a quality player in there.
