What Spurs need to do to qualify first for CL knockout stages tonight

A win against Sporting Lisbon this evening will guarantee Tottenham a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Spurs’ Champions League campaign so far has been far from perfect, with Antonio Conte’s men falling to a defeat away at Sporting Lisbon and being held to a 0-0 draw away at Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, the Lilywhites still sit at the top of Group D going into their home clash against Sporting and a win against the Portuguese side will see them book their place in the round of 16.

If Tottenham were to win this evening and Marseille were to lose in Frankfurt, the North Londoners would also seal top spot in the group.

Even if Spurs were to lose or draw, qualification would still be in their hands heading into their final group-stage clash at Marseille but that is certainly a situation that Conte will want to avoid.

Spurs Web Opinion

Among the other three sides, Marseille have looked the strongest even though we beat them 2-0 at home in our first group game. So, the clash at the Stade Velodrome will be quite tricky for Spurs. It will not be ideal to even require a point going into that game. So, Conte will look at tonight’s game as a must-win.
