‘What’s happened?’ – Dumbfounded Harry Redknapp asks five questions of Dele Alli

Harry Redknapp has revealed that he cannot believe what is happening with Dele Alli at Tottenham and is unsure how the club can get him firing again.

Despite a promising start to the season under Nuno Espirito Santo, the 25-year-old has seemingly fallen out of favour with the Portuguese coach.

Alli had secured himself a spot in the side earlier on this season and started each of the side’s first six Premier League games, but has been dropped from the line-up and remained an unused substitute for the last three fixtures.

The latest episode saw Alli be omitted from Tottenham’s squad altogether to face Burnley in the Carabao Cup in midweek, with Nuno preferring to have five defenders at his disposal instead.

Alli appears to be facing another uphill battle to re-establish himself in the Spurs squad, a far cry from the player who flourished under Mauricio Pochettino and on the international stage for England.

The midfielder’s woes have completely thrown former Spurs boss Redknapp, who cannot believe a ‘fantastic talent’ has regressed this much so quickly.

Speaking to The Athletic, he said: “What’s happened to Dele? A boy of his age. Where’s he gone? I thought he was a fantastic talent. Can no one sort him out? Does he need to sort himself out? Can no one get into his head?”

This is now the second manager that has given Alli opportunities since Pochettino’s departure, and the second to complete ditch their plans to use him. January is fast approaching, and it would not be too surprising if Spurs consider moving him on to start fresh.
