‘When I played in Holland’ – Bergwijn gives insight into Vitesse Arnhem

Steven Bergwijn believes Tottenham’s Europa Conference League fixture against Vitesse ‘will be difficult’ but is confident the side will have enough quality to earn a result on Thursday evening.

Vitesse, who currently sit in sixth position in the Eredivisie, are third in Group G with three points and are narrowly behind both Tottenham and Rennes who occupy the top two spots.

Spurs travel to the Netherlands on a high following a confident victory against Newcastle United last weekend, while the hosts secured a 1-0 win at NEC Nijmegen.

Bergwijn, 24, is very familiar with Spurs’ opponents having played against them on seven occasions before during his stint with PSV Eindhoven.

Although the winger is expecting a tough challenge in his native Holland, he is confident that the team will have enough quality in the squad to secure a positive result ahead of this weekend’s London derby clash against West Ham United.

He said (via football.london): “When I played in Holland, Vitesse was always difficult. They like to play good football and it will be difficult in their stadium. But we’re Tottenham and we have a lot of quality.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Bergwijn will have some insider knowledge regarding Vitesse having had some experience playing against them before.

Like most European fixtures it will be a tricky fixture to negotiate, and hopefully the line-up Nuno Espirito Santo selects will be good enough to overpower them.
