‘When you lose one’ – Mark Lawrenson shares his Aston Villa v Spurs score prediction

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has shared his prediction ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League match against Aston Villa this afternoon.

Last time out, Lawrenson correctly predicted that Tottenham would beat Crystal Palace, however, he backed Ryan Mason‘s side to win 2-0 when Harry Kane‘s first-half header was all that separated the two sides.

Spurs currently sit sixth in the table with 57 points but are looking over their shoulder at Brighton who are just two points behind and have played a couple less matches while Villa can go level with Tottenham if they manage to secure a victory today.

Lawrenson believes that Spurs will pick up three valuable points against Unai Emery’s high-flyers, who suffered a setback last weekend with their defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Tottenham’s away form has been a huge cause of concern this season and are currently winless in eight away games in all competitions. The north Londoners have not had a longer winless away run since a 13-match streak from May to December 2000.

He told Paddy Power: “Aston Villa lost to Wolves last time while Tottenham beat Crystal Palace, both 1-0.

“I’ll go for Tottenham to win this. Villa have been on a fab run but when you lose one that can knock you off your stride.”

Prediction: Aston Villa 1-2 Tottenham.

Tottenham need to finish the season on a high and while some supporters may not want the club to play in the Europa League or Conference League, it will allow the club at the very least to give some of our younger players the opportunity to taste first-team football.
