Where Tottenham stand in the race to sign Brentford’s Michael Kayode

Earlier this week, Tottenham were again linked with Brentford’s Michael Kayode, but that may be a fruitless pursuit already.

It seems like Tottenham are looking to reinforce just about every position at the moment, but the full-back area is one the Lilywhites have looked at for some time now.

Pedro Porro and Djed Spence are solid options at right-back, but both have their drawbacks and have come under scrutiny this season.

It figures, then, that Spurs were named as admirers of Michael Kayode earlier this week. However, they are not alone in having the Brentford man on their shortlist.

Man City lead Tottenham in the race for Michael Kayode

The initial report on Kayode’s status suggested the likes of Newcastle, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan were all keen on the young full-back. It’s Man City who are leading the way, though.

That’s according to a new report from Caught Offside, which states Pep Guardiola is keen to invest in that position in the summer and sees Kayode as an ideal fit for City.

Apparently, sources say Man City are the ‘most serious suitors’ for Kayode at this stage after keeping a very close eye on the 21-year-old this season.

A move in January is thought to be unlikely, with the Bees preferring to delay any departure until the summer. It’s said Brentford would demand at least £35m if they were to sell Kayode.

Vanderson could be the cheaper alternative for Spurs

If Spurs are to miss out on Kayode as expected now, they may be better off turning to Vanderson at Monaco instead.

Tottenham were linked with the Brazilian long ago, and his name has resurfaced again of late. It’s thought Monaco would sell Vanderson for £20m and have already offered him to clubs like Spurs.

He’s perhaps not as impressive as Kayode, but Vanderson is certainly cheaper, and he does have experience at the top-level with Monaco, too.
