‘Who do they think they are?’ – Ex-Spurs man hits out at one particular fan opinion

Darren Bent has hit out at the idea of Tottenham fans being embarrassed to win the Europa Conference League trophy this season.

The former Spurs star was quick to point out that the North London club have not won a trophy since 2008 and are not in a position to be fussy.

He added that he would go all out to try and lift the inaugural Conference League trophy and let other fans make their jokes.

However, it may not be that easy, even if Tottenham do want to take the competition seriously, as they find themselves on the brink of an early exit.

Spurs need to beat Rennes in their final group match to even qualify for the play-offs, let alone make it into the knockouts. To make matters worse, that fixture has now been postponed and might not be played until the new year (Sun).

Bent told TalkSPORT: “At the end of the day, Spurs haven’t won a trophy since 2008. It’s kind of ‘who do they think they are?’ In terms of turning up their nose at a potential trophy.

“I would go all out to win the trophy, then let others poke fun and ask questions about it later. They will poke fun, but imagine if you don’t win it? It’s much worse.”

On some Spurs fans being embarrassed, he added: “I hope not because they need to win a trophy. Yes, there will be some turning their noses up at it.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I can’t help but agree. There is nothing embarrassing about winning a trophy. If anything, it would be more embarrassing not to win it. If you can’t walk your way to the seemingly easy titles, they you are going to have no chance in the Champions League.
