Brennan Johnson’s Spurs career

Brennan Johnson signed for Spurs in the summer of 2023, on deadline day, in a bumper £55m deal from Nottingham Forest. He has been a steady source of goals and assists since.

With Postecoglou looking to add to his attacking options, Johnson was selected as the ideal player to join his revolution, due to his versatility across the front three, keen eye for goal, athleticism, and his young age.

Johnson played predominantly on the right-wing under Postecoglou, and provides plenty of width, always attempts to get the ball across the box, and pops up with valuable goals and assists at key times.

He found himself out of favour following the appointment of Thomas Frank in the summer of 2025 and was deemed surplus ot requirements when he was sold to Crystal Palace for £35million in January 2026.

Johnson cemented his place in the heart of the club’s supporters when he scored the winning goal in Tottenham’s Europa League final victory over Manchester United in Bilbao.

Why did Brennan Johnson deactivate his social media?

A small section of Tottenham fans have often tried to use Brennan Johnson as a scapegoat when things aren’t going right. This escalated at the start of the 2024/25 season, when Johnson ended up deactivating his social media accounts because of the abuse he was receiving.

Some fans have been unhappy with Johnson’s decision-making in the final third, his finishing, and the balls he delivers into the box. They flooded his social media comments section with hurtful messages, questioning whether he is good enough to play for the club.

In the aftermath of closing his social media accounts, Johnson came on as a substitute in the Carabao Cup tie with Coventry City and scored the winning goal in the final minute. Just days later, he scored again in the 3-1 Premier League win over Brentford and went on to score seven goals in seven matches.

The fans in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in that game were particularly supportive of Johnson, proving that it was just a vocal minority being negative about him. On 23rd October 2024, the winger decided to reactivate his Instagram account.

How much is Brennan Johnson worth?

A Nottingham Forest hero

Brennan Johnson came through the Nottingham Forest academy and went on to make over 100 appearances for the club, helping them gain promotion to the Premier League, and then helping them stay there, too.

He scored 29 goals and registered 12 assists across 109 games for Forest, including an 18-goal haul in the Championship, and another eight in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

The fans at Forest adored Johnson, especially as he was a local boy coming through the ranks and becoming a first-team regular. His goals largely contributed to the club’s return to the top flight, and without him, they likely wouldn’t have avoided relegation either.

It is worth noting, he also had a brief loan spell at Lincoln City in the 2020/21 season, scoring 13 goals and adding 14 assists in 49 games.

Brennan Johnson has a famous father

Brennan Johnson is the son of former Nottingham Forest striker, David Johnson. His father spent five years at Forest, racking up almost 50 goals for the club.

David Johnson began his career at Manchester United but never made the breakthrough there. He went on to join Bury, then Ipswich, before moving to Forest.

He had a few very brief loan spells during his stay in the Midlands, at Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley, and Sheffield United.

Johnson Senior was a bit of a cult hero at Forest, too, where he made 163 appearances and scored 48 goals.

Brennan Johnson’s Wales career explained

Despite his father playing for Jamaica, and him having English ancestry, Brennan Johnson opted to play for Wales at international level and he is a regular starter for the Dragons these days.

Johnson actually represented England at Under-16 and Under-17 level, but then made the switch to Wales at Under-19.

He was handed his senior debut by Rob Page in November 2020 in a 0-0 draw against the USA in a friendly. Johnson had to bide his time from there, though, and it wasn’t until the World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign that he really staked his claim on the international scene.

Brennan Johnson’s personal life

Johnson was born in Nottingham on May 23, 2001, making him 23-years-old at the time of writing. He is 1.86m tall and weighs 73kg.

He started dating model Tilde Cilla Syah earlier in 2024. You cannot find Brennan Johnson on social media right now after he deactivated his account, as mentioned above.
