Reports in the press indicate that Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo is one of Tottenham’s main targets this summer with TuttoSport (translated by Sport Witness) reporting a couple of weeks ago that Spurs are willing to offer between €45-50 million for the 19-year-old.
However, a recent report in CalcioMercato indicates that Roma have slapped a €70 million price tag on Zaniolo to ward off any interest.
It is claimed that Italian champions Juventus are also interested in adding the left-footer to their squad this summer.
Here’s all you need to know about the teenager:
Full Name: Nicolò Zaniolo
Club: A.S. Roma
Position: Wide midfield/Wing
Playing Style: Zaniolo is a left-footed player who likes to prefers playing on the right-hand side either of a midfield 4 or front 3 but likes to drift in towards the central positions. He is direct and loves running at people, and is deceptively quick for someone of his height and stature.
He is equally adept at getting to the byline as well as coming inside and delivering crosses. He is an aggressive player that looks to run in behind and tends to pass forward.
Strengths: Dribbling, strength, awareness
Weaknesses: Can be wasteful in possession
Career Highlight: The 18/19 season was Zaniolo’s breakthrough season as he broke into the Roma team after moving from Inter Milan last summer. He made 27 Serie A appearances last season, scoring 4 goals and assisting two others.
His performances helped him break into the senior Italian national team at the age of 19 and has attracted interest from several of the top European clubs.
Rumour rating: A-
Zaniolo certainly fits the profile of a typical Tottenham target as he is just the kind of talented and mentally strong young player who Pochettino loves to work with. Besides, multiple sources seem to back up the fact that Tottenham are serious in their interest.
However, if the reports regarding his €70 million price tag are true then, Tottenham will likely decide to look elsewhere this summer.
