Who Paul Merson thinks will win between Spurs and Man City

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has given his prediction ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Manchester City.

Both sides meet at Wembley Stadium on Monday night with Pep Guardiola’s side currently two points better off in the Premier League than Spurs after nine matches.

The omens aren’t on Mauricio Pochettino’s side when you consider that Spurs have lost 10 of their last 15 Premier League games against Man City (W4 D1), having lost just three of their first 27 games against them in the competition. Naturally, the fact they have bought success in recent years certainly skews this stat.

There has been plenty of talk about the potential state of the Wembley playing surface when it will host an NFL match just over 24 hours before. Tottenham have lost just two of their last 21 Premier League games at Wembley Stadium.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson has tipped City to come away from the capital with a comfortable 3-1 victory.

He told Sky Sports: “This should be a cracker! Tottenham are getting results without playing well – I thought they rode their luck against West Ham. There’s a few in that squad who aren’t playing to their full ability at the moment. However, look where they are in the league – they will only get better.

“I think the pitch could become an issue. Modern players are not used to playing on a dodgy pitch? We were more accustom to it back in the day – I once played at the Baseball Ground and there was not one blade of grass on the pitch.

“It just may suit Manchester City that little better as they have a bit more pace in their team and will not be fully reliant on pass, pass, pass.

“Prediction: 1-3.”
