During the second half of the game between Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United at the weekend, Brennan Johnson was spotted wearing a shirt with the Spurs badge absent, and here’s why.
Tottenham got back to winning ways in front of a home crowd on Sunday afternoon, taking all three points thanks to a 4-1 win against Newcastle. The game was seen as something of a marker of how far the side have come since the disastrous 6-1 defeat to the Magpies in April.
Goals from Destiny Udogie, a Richarlison brace, and a Heung-min Son penalty sealed the win, before Joelinton converted a late consolation for the visitors.
There were many talking points from the game, from Richarlison‘s return to form, Guglielmo Vicario winding up the opposition, and Cristian Romero once again putting in a risky challenge which could have seen him pick up a red card again.
What happened to Brennan Johnson’s Spurs shirt?
However, one thing eagle-eyed fans may also have noticed is the fact that Brennan Johnson turned out for the second half with the Spurs badge missing from his kit. A piece from the Daily Mail reveals what happened.
Described as a “strange kit error,” fans spotted the Spurs crest peeling off Johnson’s shirt in the first half of the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Eventually, the badge would “fall off altogether,” leaving the Welshman to play on without it.
Oh no Nike 🙈 No Tottenham crest on Brennan Johnson's shirt today. #TOTNEW pic.twitter.com/B65d6EJyk6

It is not known what actually caused the issue with that particular shirt on this occasion, or whether it would be likely to happen again.

You would have hoped that a piece of kit costing that much money would be impervious to a little wear and tear, even during a game. If the badge ever falls off my Spurs shirt, I’ll be very unhappy with Nike indeed.
