Why Christian Eriksen did not feature against Crystal Palace

Tottenham Hotspur suffered their second cup exit in one week yesterday, as they fell to a 2-0 loss against Crystal Palace.

Spurs have made the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the past two seasons, but an early fourth round exit against Premier League opposition was on the cards this year.

This would normally be heart-breaking for Spurs fans, with the FA Cup being the biggest realistic trophy chance for their club, however it hurt even more this week.

That’s because the exit came just four days after their League Cup semi final defeat to Chelsea on rivals.

From four competitions to just two in the space of a matter of days, not a good omen for Tottenham at all.

Harry Kane and Dele Alli missed the ties through injury, with Heung Min Son being away at the Asia Cup with South Korea.

Despite the absences of his biggest stars, Pochettino still decided to rest Christian Eriksen completely for the tie, not even naming him on the bench.

Poch said (BT Sport – as reported by Express): “Christian Eriksen is rested today because he is so tired.”
