Why Heung-min Son may not be available for starting XI at the weekend

Tottenham Hotspur left it late for the second Premier League game in a row before coming from behind to snatch all three points last night.

Watford took the lead in the first half, and kept Spurs out until the 80th minute, when Heung Min Son finally opened the Lilywhites’ scoring.

Llorente then capped off the fine performance as he nodded home a winner just seven minutes later.

Son only arrived back at Spurs a few days ago, after South Korea suffered a shock exit in the Asia Cup quarter final, losing to Qatar.

The South Korean was expected to be away for a couple more games, so his availability today was a real bonus for Spurs.

Son added another dimension to Tottenham’s play, and he exuded confidence and goal threat with every attack.

However, Pochettino has now revealed that it was never the plan for him to play the full 90, and he pulled up with cramp after the final whistle.

Son may not be available for the starting XI at the weekend.

Poch said (Football London):  “For me it was too much. It wasn’t the plan to play with him for the full 90 minutes but how the result was, you know in that moment I talked with Jesus [Perez] and I said maybe we need to take a little bit of a risk to keep him playing. He finished very tired, with some cramp. We’re going to see if he can recover for the next game, if he’s ok maybe he’s going to be in the starting XI, if not on the bench. For sure if we need him, he’s going to help the team. That’s one circumstance more.”
