Why Lyon’s reported move for Brazilian youngster is great news for Spurs

Several Brazilian publications including Gazette Sportiva are reporting that Lyon have reached an agreement for the transfer of Flamengo midfielder Jean Lucas for a fee of €8 million.

The French club were reported in negotiations with Flamengo for the 20-year-old defensive midfielder, who is currently on loan at Santos.

The news of Lyon’s activity in the transfer marked can only be viewed as a positive step with Lucas’ recruitment being a possible replacement for Tanguy Ndombele given the fact that the Brazilian is also a box to box midfielder.

Ndombele has had a fantastic season at Lyon, and Pochettino has reportedly identified him as a priority this summer.

Football.London reported earlier that Spurs and Lyon are close to agreeing on a deal for Ndombele but Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas recently stated that the club will only let the talented 22-year-old leave if they get a replacement in (Evening Standard).

If the deal for Lucas is finalised then it could indeed mean that the French international is close to joining Spurs.
