Tottenham Hotspur have just learned that Man United have moved ahead of them into pole position to land Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, but according to David Ornstein’s latest update, that may not necessarily be bad news for Spurs.
Both Man United and Tottenham Hotspur have had poor seasons in the Premier League, but both clubs are trying to salvage their campaign by getting their hands on the Europa League trophy.
It has been reported that both clubs are eyeing some of the same targets ahead of the summer window.
Both Spurs and the Red Devils are thought to be battling out for Matheus Cunha, but over recent days, it has been widely reported that Man United have now made significant progress in their efforts to sign Cunha.

Tottenham could have a free run at two Premier League wingers
Cunha is not the only player on the radar of the two clubs, with Ruben Amorim’s side and Ange Postecoglou’s men also thought to be keen on Tyler Dibling.
Additionally, Man United are also reportedly leading Tottenham in the race for Antonie Semenyo, whose future at Bournemouth is thought to be in doubt.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein has now told NBC Sports that Cunha has become the Red Devils’ top target and that there is optimism at Old Trafford that they can land the Brazilian.
However, Ornstein goes on to say that Semenyo and Dibling have merely been identified as alternatives in case the move for Cunha collapses.
That means that United making progress on their efforts to land the Wolves man may allow Tottenham to have a free run at Dibling and Semenyo, which comes as a major boost to the North London side ahead of the summer window.
One factor will dictate if Spurs win the summer window
It is not surprising that United and Tottenham are both looking at proven Premier League performers as they look to move towards the top end of the table next season after a disastrous campaign.
Whoever qualifies for the Champions League via the Europa League could thus have a significant advantage going into the window, as it will make the club a lot more attractive for transfer targets.
Ange Postecoglou may not remain at Tottenham this summer to oversee the club’s summer business, but he can certainly make the club’s recruitment objectives easier if he guides them to their first trophy since 2008.
