‘Why not’ – Manager admits Spurs striker target could leave before window closes

Benfica manager Jorge Jesus has admitted that rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target, Carlos Vinicius, could leave the club before the transfer window shuts.

Vinicius is one of several strikers rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, as the club look to sign a back up to Harry Kane before the window closes on Monday.

Jose Mourinho has admitted that the club is trying hard to get a deal for a striker over the line.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold offered a positive update on Spurs’ striker search today by revealing that the club are close to landing a forward, although he did not say which player they are prioritising.

Vinicius had a prolific season in front of goal last time out, finding the back of the net 24 times in all competitions but he is yet to start a game for Benfica this campaign (transkermarkt.com).

Jesus has now admitted that the Brazilian is surplus to requirements and that the club could cash in on him if they receive a decent offer.

When asked about Vinicius, he told Record: “We usually play in most games with two strikers. Now, we have four (in the squad), with the boy Gonçalo Ramos we have five.

“If Vinicius has offers and is a player out of which Benfica can make a significant financial contribution…If we let Ruben Dias go, why not let Vinicius go? As a coach, I have to look at the interests of the team and the club.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Between Seferovic and Vinicius, I would prefer for us to land the Brazilian as he carries much more of a goal threat. While Milik would be the dream signing, I would not be too displeased if we ended up with Vinicius, as long as we also bring in a top central defender.
