Why Spurs fans cannot be angry with Pochettino after the Champions League final

After Tottenham’s Champions League heartbreak on Saturday night, many have criticised Pochettino for the decisions he made within the match.

The Argentine not only started Harry Kane in the crucial final, but also left him on the pitch for the full 90, despite little to no impact from the England captain.

Spurs enjoyed all the possession, but lacked a killer instinct in the final third, and were unable to make their time on the ball count with significant chances.

However, despite the fact that Pochettino may have missed a trick against Liverpool, I believe fans should refrain from criticising him too much.

I think that people forget, while Pochettino is an incredible manager, he is also inexperienced in these situations. He only ever managed Espanyol and Southampton before Spurs, with Tottenham being his biggest job by far.

He has never had to deal with Champions League finals or domestic League trophy pushes in his career before, and will surely only get better. Spurs just have to ensure they enjoy Poch’s best years by giving him the money he needs.

Look at Jurgen Klopp, he lost six finals in a row, including two Champions League finals, before finally lifting the biggest prize in club football on Saturday.

Just as the likes of young Harry Winks are still learning their trade, Pochettino is a young manager and is still learning his.

Spurs should give him the money he needs to develop, give him all the experience he needs, and stick with this gaffer and this squad until the trophy inevitably comes.
