Why Tanganga is still at Spurs despite interest from Sevilla, Inter, and Luton – Journalist reports

Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed on the Last Word on Spurs podcast (starting at 36:20) that while all the clubs interested in Japhet Tanganga only want to sign the centre-back on loan, Tottenham are looking for a permanent sale.

Jacobs stated that several clubs have enquired about Tanganga’s availability this summer but those sides, including newly promoted Luton Town, have only asked Spurs about a temporary deal without any obligation to buy.

Tottenham want to sell Japhet Tanganga

The journalist stated that Tottenham prefer to offload the 24-year-old permanently due to the bloated nature of their squad and added that it remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites change their stance regarding the player.

Jacobs also stated that Sevilla made a loan approach for Tanganga four weeks ago but have not returned for the defender since their request was knocked back by Spurs.

With regards to Inter Milan’s interest in the centre-back, he explains that while the Nerazzurri are ‘keen’ on the Tottenham academy graduate, they are not in a strong financial position and are prioritising signing a striker before the window closes.

Spurs Web Opinion

This window is shaping up quite similar to last summer’s one where Spurs, in the end, had no choice but to loan out their unwanted players. It appears like the likes of Reguilon, Ndombele and Tanganga might head out on loan again.

I do not think it is just a matter of Tottenham being bad at offloading players. The reality is that Italian, Spanish and French clubs have still not recovered from the financial impact of Covid and are not in a position to even pay moderate transfer fees.

So, the only option is to either sell to Premier League clubs or to Saudi Arabian sides, and it is unclear if the likes of Tanganga, Ndombele, Lloris and co are open to moving to the Saudi Pro League.
