Why the England squad announcement benefits Spurs

Michael Dawson is Tottenham’s only call-up for England’s friendly against Hungary on Wednesday.

Jermain Defoe is carring an injury but should be fit for the Premier League opener against Manchester City on Saturday.

The lack of involvement of the likes of Tom Huddlestone, Ledley King and Aaron Lennon is a bonus for Spurs fans, considering the international takes place just three days before our game against Man City – it will allow our stars to be fresh for kick-off.

Harry Redknapp has already publically stated he doesn’t understand why the fixture was set up.

England squad: Foster (Birmingham), Hart (Manchester City), Robinson (Blackburn); Brown (Manchester United), Cahill (Bolton), A Cole (Chelsea), Dawson (Tottenham), Gibbs (Arsenal), Jagielka (Everton), G Johnson (Liverpool), Terry (Chelsea); Barry (Manchester City), Gerrard (Liverpool), A Johnson (Manchester City), Lampard (Chelsea), Milner (Aston Villa), Young (Aston Villa), Walcott (Arsenal), Wilshere (Arsenal); Bent (Sunderland), C Cole (West Ham), Rooney (Manchester United), Zamora (Fulham).

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Yeah but as far as I know, the likes of Modric etc are still off for international matches with the interruption that it causes to their season preparations.
Plus Rob Green is dropped for one mistake, Peter Crouch and Aaron Lennon do nothing wrong and they are left out. Meanwhile, the trouble makers of John Terry and Steve Gerrard, the incredibly annoying (although admittedly one of of England's best performers) Ashley Cole, and the under performing fat Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney, remain in the squad. Fabio is showing himself to be a bully who is scared of confronting the cool kids but happy to put the boot in to those that won't make a fuss. Bollox to England as far as I am concerned – again!

  2. Im glad we didnt sign JCole as we have Gio and Rose who are younger and will be much better. Gio was class today and Rose made some great touches.

    • Stratts you must be lost if you're actually using that p!$$ poor program to parallel the status quo of our zenophobic focal point

  3. Now perhaps luka has a slight groin strain, gomes bale gio and daws are feelin tight hamstrings and niko vedran and seb have formed a fear of flying! sayin that man city don’t worry us I’m sure of that! A couple of final things how good were keano and gio today! And I feel a big signing coming on!

  4. Rob, man wots your probelm, even losing one player to a poxy english international friendly, so close to one of the biggest weeks in the clubs recent history is one too maney. All I can say is thank the gods it wasn't more.

  5. Can't understand Capello at all. Why on earth pick a crap player in Rooney? He is an embarrassment and possibly the worst role model. He was easily one of the worst players in the recent world cup tournament.

  6. Harry mentioned that poor Dos Santos will be coming back from international duty on Friday. We would be screwed if City didn't have a potentially bigger headache with their international squad.
