Why there may still be hope for a new Fernando Llorente contract

Tottenham Hotspur look as if they will not be extending the contract of Fernando Llorente this summer, with the Spaniard’s current deal expiring yesterday (Football London).

However, could there still be hope for a last-minute extension for the former World Cup winner?

Michel Vorm is also departing the North London club this transfer window after many years of service. However, despite the fact that his contract expires on the same day as Llorente’s (yesterday), Vorm’s leaving was announced way back on June 7.

So, why have Tottenham failed to acknowledge Llorente’s departure so far this summer?

I believe there could be a few reasons. Perhaps Tottenham did not decide one way or the other until very recently. Perhaps they are negotiating new terms. Or perhaps Llorente has been waiting to see what other offers he receives this summer.

Whatever the case, I find it strange that nothing has been said on the matter as of yet. It remains to be seen whether Spurs make an announcement today, as Llorente is technically not supposed to be a Tottenham player anymore.
