Tottenham Hotspur have done something interesting in their agreement to sell Manor Solomon, which suggests that the North Londoners expect the winger to be successful at West Ham.
Solomon has sealed a move across London to West Ham, with the deal thought to be worth £7m, including add-ons.
It brings to an end the 27-year-old’s three-year spell at Tottenham, although ironically, the winger had not made a competitive appearance for the Lilywhites since 2023.
The Israel international was shipped out on loan to Leeds United, Villarreal and Fiorentina over the last couple of seasons, and he has now finally found a permanent home.
Tottenham have retained a sell-on clause on Manor Solomon
Spurs signed the winger on a free transfer three years ago after his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk was voided due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
That means that the £7m will go down in Tottenham’s books as pure profit, and Alasdair Gold has revealed that the North Londoners have also retained a 10 per cent sell-on clause on the player.
Spurs will hope that Solomon succeeds at the London Stadium and potentially moves for an even bigger fee in the future. These sell-on clauses often only refer to transfer profit, meaning West Ham would have to sell Solomon for over £5m-£7m before Tottenham would claim any percentage.
Gold wrote on X: “Manor Solomon completes his permanent move from Spurs to West Ham for £5m plus £2m in add-ons plus a 10% sell-on clause.”
Solomon’s Spurs career could have been very different
If the winger had not missed almost the entirety of his first season at Tottenham through injury and had played under Ange Postecoglou, his trajectory at the club could have been very different.
Solomon has suggested he felt unfairly treated at times by Tottenham, but it was always going to be hard for him to force himself into the set-up following such a long injury layoff.
The 27-year-old has shown during pre-season that he can be a handful when he is at his best, and one would not be surprised if he helps West Ham get promoted and shines in the Premier League next season.
