‘Will agree with Tottenham’ – Club president confirms loan only runs until January

Hajduk Split president Luksa Jakobusic has confirmed that for the moment, Luka Vuskovic has only been loaned back to the club until January and that the Croatian side will have a discussion with Tottenham regarding the path forward.

Spurs announced last month that they had reached an agreement with Hajduk over the transfer of Vuskovic, who will arrive at the North London club in 2025, with the club revealing that the young centre-back had put pen to paper on a contract in N17 that runs until 2030.

The teenager is widely considered to be the next big talent to emerge from Croatian football, having turned quite a few heads since breaking into Hajduk’s first team.

According to various reports, Tottenham saw off competition from several clubs, including a late attempt by Newcastle United, to land the player for a fee of around £8.7m (Football Insider).

Sportske Novosti revealed a couple of weeks ago that while Vuskovic had been loaned back to Hajduk for the time being, there is no clarity on how long he will stay at his boyhood club, adding that the Lilywhites might want to send him to a stronger league in January to fast-forward his development.

Vuskovic may only remain in Croatia until January

Jakobusic has now confirmed that the centre-back is only due to stay at the club until January and that the club will hold talks with Spurs about the next step.

He told 24 Sata (as relayed by Sport Witness): “Continuity until January is important, and then we will agree with Tottenham where he will go on loan because he needs to go to a stronger league due to his visa.”

Meanwhile, Hajduk’s new manager Mislav Karoglan also hinted that the club’s association with Vuskovic is expected to come to an end in January.

He said about the youngster: “That’s not a question for me. For me, that story with him is over, he stays until January, competes and trains with the first team.

“In agreement with the sports director and coach, when he is not competing for the seniors, he plays for the juniors, there is no obligation to play.”

It sounds like Hajduk do not expect Tottenham to extend Vuskovic’s stay at the club and instead expects the defender to be loaned out to a different league. The work permit restricts rule out the prospect of Spurs loaning the teenager out to an EFL side.
