‘Will be a big miss’ – Pundit reacts to Spurs injury update for Tanguy Ndombele

Former Tottenham number one, Paul Robinson believes that Tanguy Ndombele will be a big miss for Spurs if he is out injured for an extended spell but insisted that the Lilywhites have the strength in depth to cope without the Frenchman.

Ndombele has been one of Tottenham’s best players at the start of this season, with the team often relying on him to be the main creative outlet in midfield.

His performance in the first-half during Spurs’ 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge was a perfect illustration of what the France international can provide with his ability to go past players with the drop of a shoulder.

Ndombele was not fit to take to the field in the North London Derby on Sunday, with Giovani Lo Celso coming into the team in place of the former Lyon man.

While the Argentine put in an energetic display against Arsenal and played a key part in the home side’s second goal, the team certainly missed Ndombele’s penetration and speed of thought in the final third.

Reports indicate that the 23-year-old is expected to be fit for the clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday but Robinson believes Spurs have enough options to compensate for Ndombele’s absence even if he does not recover as soon as expected.

The former England goalkeeper told Football Insider: “Spurs have the squad to cope with an injury like that now.

“This season they have got strength in depth in all areas.

“Ndombele has been outstanding this season and a key part of the success enjoyed so far. He has reached another level, the level we expected of him when he first came in.

“He will be a big miss if he is out for a length of time but Jose Mourinho has the players to cope with it.

“Lo Celso started on Sunday but they have also got Harry Winks who can play in that role. The squad is very balanced.

“Yes, Ndombele will be missed from the starting eleven but there are players who are more than capable of coming in and doing a job.”
