‘Will be perfect’ – Ex-Leeds man urges 23-year-old to make Spurs move

Paddy Kenny believes that a move to Tottenham Hotspur could be an ideal one for Aaron Ramsdale this summer as it would allow the young goalkeeper to learn from Hugo Lloris.

There have been contradictory reports regarding Lloris’ future, with some sources suggesting that the Frenchman could return to Ligue 1 this summer while others have claimed that he is set to sign a contract extension with Spurs.

A potential reunion with Jose Mourinho at AS Roma has also been mooted as a possibility for the 34-year-old by the Italian press.

Ramsdale is rumoured to be one of the goalkeepers that Tottenham are eyeing as a potential replacement for their captain but it has been suggested over recent weeks that the 23-year-old could stay put at Bramall Lane despite Sheffield United’s relegation.

Kenny suggesting that joining Spurs could be a smart move for Ramsdale even if Lloris stays, insisting that the Blades star could challenge the France number one for a place in the starting eleven.

The former Leeds and QPR goalkeeper told Football Insider: “Me personally, I’d be waiting for a move where I can go and be number one.

“But listen, it’s a chance to go to Spurs and Lloris has only got a year left. So there’s a good chance he’ll move on.

“I don’t think he’s been the best or the most consistent over the past few years anyway.

“So why not go there and challenge him for that spot? Ramsdale is still a young lad so it will be perfect for him to learn off someone like Lloris as well.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not see Tottenham selling Lloris this summer unless the Frenchman refuses to sign a contract extension which one would not think he would. However, we do need to be on the lookout for Hugo’s long-term replacement this summer as he is not getting any younger.

If we are to move for a young English goalkeeper, I would much rather see us go for Sam Johnstone over Ramsdale. The question is whether the Baggies shot-stopper would be ready to come to Spurs and play second fiddle to Lloris for a season or two.
