PA Sport’s Jonathan Veal has taken to social media to reveal that Son Heung-min tested negative for COVID-19 ahead of South Korea’s international friendly against Qatar this afternoon.
Reports initially emerged on Saturday that four South Korean stars had tested positive before a subsequent test confirmed that another two players had contracted their virus ahead of their friendly against Mexico.
The game still went ahead, with the Mexicans edging out the South Korean’s 3-2 and Son playing all ninety minutes as captain.
Goal.com journalist Steve Han reported on Monday that another test had revealed that one more staff member from South Korea’s camp has tested positive but there were no additional positive tests among the players.
Veal has now confirmed that there were no more positive tests ahead of the clash against Qatar, with the game going ahead as planned.
He also revealed that the players will leave Austria and return to their clubs as soon as the friendly was finished.
Son watch: No more positive tests in the South Korea 🇰🇷 playing group so the game with Qatar goes ahead in Austria at 1pm. Son and the rest of the squad will leave asap after full-time as Austria is going into lockdown today. #THFC #COYS
